Report an Environmental Incident on the River

Have you observed a possible Environmental Issue along the River? Report it!

If you know of an environmental incident in Rhode Island, such as a release of a hazardous substance of any amount, whether on land, in water, or in the air, or if you suspect a release is imminent, call:

RIDEM (Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management)

  • Office of Compliance and Inspection- (401) 222-1360 (Mon-Fri, 8-4)
  • DEM Hotline- (401) 222-3070 (anytime) (The Environmental Police, the Division of Law Enforcement)

EPA New England Environmental Emergencies

  • National Response Center:(800) 424-8802
Examples of environmental emergencies include:
  • Oil and chemical spills
  • Radiological and biological discharges
  • Accidents causing releases of pollutants
To report an oil spill or other environmental emergency such as a chemical release, or observed or suspected releases of pollutants. This is a 24-hour activated service. Local State responders will also be contacted through this service.
